2021 Chevrolet Tahoe in Liberty, MO
The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe has once again raised the bar for what a full-size SUV should be. While the fifth generation of this family workhorse has everything you've come to expect from a Tahoe, Chevy has made some interesting and exciting changes. The exterior has a new style. The interior is roomier and has been thoroughly updated with fun and intuitive features. And a new suspension gives it a smoother and better ride quality.
Trim Levels
There are 6 trim and 11 configuration options. The LS and LT will provide basic, no-frills features. The mid-level RST and Z71 models bring on additions like leather seating, and in Z71's case, a more rugged outdoor look. Sitting at the high end of the trim levels are the Premium and High Country models, outfitted with luxury features like a 22-inch Sterling Silver premium painted wheel with chrome inserts and all-season tires, retractable foot access runners, a rear camera mirror, and HD surround vision.
Engine
The standard engine on lower-trim models is a 5.3-liter V8 that cranks out 355 horsepower. Upgrading or higher-level trims will come with a 6.2-liter V8 and 420 horsepower. The interesting choice for the 2021 is that higher trims can be outfitted with a 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder diesel engine: the first time we've seen a diesel option for full SUVs.
Performance
The 2021 model has ditched the solid axle for an independent suspension, and it's definitely made a difference in drive performance and feel. The car is more responsive on the road and makes city driving feel easier. It also provides more cushion for when you decide to get it dirty and take it off-road. An knob on the driver's left-hand side can adjust the drive mode to four different settings: normal, sport, snow/ice, and tow/haul.
Interior
The first thing you notice when you step inside the 2021 Chevy Tahoe is that the interior is significantly different than the outgoing model, and in a good way. The gear selector is now an innovative button system on the dashboard—a welcome upgrade from the clunky column shifter on last year's model. The second-row captain seats have plenty of space and access to their own climate control and USB ports. The third row has more space and can be lowered electronically with a convenient button on the above-head driver console, as well as with buttons in the cargo area. There is also a knob that adjusts the height of the rear-cargo door opening. The highlight of the interior, however, is the updated infotainment system; it is intuitive and sensitive to the touch. And the number of high-resolution cameras and angle choices you have when backing up is one of the best in the entire car industry.
Safety Features
The Tahoe offers many driver-assistance technologies as well as high-tech towing assistance features. A few of the key safety features to highlight include a standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, a lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, an available blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
