4 Great Outdoor Activities in Driving Distance of Liberty, MO

There are some fantastic outdoor activities in the Liberty, MO area, so when you have some free time, you’ll be spoiled for choice! Here are our top suggestions for a fun day out:

Picnic in the Park

The Watkins Mill State Park is home to a fully preserved 19th-century woolen mill and museum, which is worthy of a visit, but be sure to explore the state park as well. You can follow the paved walkway all around the 100-acre lake, and it’s perfect for horses and bicycles, too.

The picnic area is near the sandy beach at the north end of the lake, and you can go for a swim if you like. There’s a boat launch available with parking for trailers, and you can put your fishing gear in the back of your Chevrolet Equinox because there’s plenty of fish in the water!

Lots of Thrills at Worlds of Fun

This theme park is set on over 300 acres, with incredible rollercoasters that will please the most daring thrill seekers, as well as gentler rides for the rest of the family. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, be sure to check out Patriot and Mamba, and the little ones will love Planet Snoopy.

Within the park, you’ll find Oceans of Fun, the biggest waterpark in the mid-west. The waterpark features a wave pool and a lazy river, as well as the largest mat-racing waterslide in the world.

Go Wild at Kansas City Zoo

Kansas City Zoo is located in the beautiful setting of Swope Park, and it has more than 1,700 animals from around the world for you to see. There are several ways to get close to the animals, including a fun train that takes you around the zoo. The Kenyan Cruise provides you with a relaxing boat ride, and the African Sky Safari takes you up in the air to see the animals.

The featured exhibits at the zoo give you the chance to learn more about some of the animals, and when you’re ready for a rest, you can head to one of the many dining areas.

Experience a Piece of the Past

The Shoal Creek Living History Museum is a group of 19th-century buildings, which are spread out across 80 acres of Hodge Park. Pick up the walking tour guide at the entrance and then follow the trail around the park to view all the different buildings. On special event days, the museum comes alive with reenactments and demonstrations of how life was in bygone days.

These are four of the ways that we like to spend our free time. Visit us at Heartland Chevrolet and share your recommendations for some other fun things to do!
