Driving on a warm day in Missouri is a great experience. You do, however, want the comfort of cold AC air if it gets muggy. Your car AC not working is the last thing you need. Fortunately, if you’re near Liberty, MO, your friendly Chevy dealer can fix that pesky AC problem for you. These are a few signs your AC isn’t working right.

Wet Carpet

A wet carpet in your Chevy is not only unpleasant, but it’s also a sign of an AC problem. The AC produces water as part of its process of removing humidity from warm or hot air. This water must be removed from your car, drains out via the drain hose, and drips onto the ground. The drain hose, the evaporator, and the evaporator heater box are all installed in front of the passenger compartment.

The rubber drain hose can become blocked over time by dirt, debris, or even bacteria growth. This prevents water from draining, and it will accumulate in the evaporator heater box instead. When the box is full, the water will drip onto the front passenger-side carpet. We can easily fix this problem by cleaning or replacing the drain hose and cleaning the carpet with an antibacterial solution.

Worn Compressor Clutch

When you turn on your AC, you’ll hear a slight click. This is the sound of the compressor switching on. The compressor compresses refrigerant gas into a liquid and then sends it into the evaporator. This compression removes the heat from the air and produces water that’s drained from your car. The compressor also controls the working of the rest of the AC system.

If you don’t hear the click and your AC blows warm air, you probably have a broken compressor clutch. The clutch controls the compressor and is responsible for the clicking noise. We can then test the clutch and install a new one if it’s failed. The compressor will restart, and your AC will be cold again.

Refrigerant Leak

Refrigerant is the gas that enables your AC to operate and produce cold air. It’s colorless and odorless, and a leak is almost impossible to spot. Refrigerant can leak from your system as a liquid or a gas.

We use a special UV dye to trace the path of the refrigerant through the system. Our technicians use a UV monitor that tracks the progress of the dye through the system and will identify the hole. Once we’ve identified the source of the leak, we’ll fix it.
